Experiential Digital Global Engagement Program accepting faculty proposals

Funding enables successful applicants to develop collaborations with Moscow State University faculty teaching 'Global Limits of Economic Growth,' 'Professional Communication in English' courses

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s Experiential Digital Global Engagement (EDGE) program is seeking two faculty members to participate in a grant-funded Internationalization at Home project.

The Department of Applied Linguistics, located in the Penn State College of the Liberal Arts, recently received a U.S.-Russia Virtual University Partnerships grant from the American Councils for International Education to develop two EDGE collaborations (four- to six-week task-based projects) between classes at Moscow State University (MSU) — "Global Limits of Economic Growth" and "Professional Communication in English" — and classes (undergraduate and/or graduate) at Penn State.

“We hope that the successful implementation of the project builds a foundation for a broader collaboration with Penn State, including research projects and faculty exchange,” said Daria Denisova, associate dean for international affairs in MSU’s School of Business. “As a starting point, the project can have a greater effect and enhance academic cooperation between MSU and Penn State.”

Penn State faculty members of any rank are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be expected to:

  • demonstrate a desire to engage in collaborative online/virtual exchanges to enhance student learning and engagement;
  • develop an EDGE project with MSU faculty between March 2022 and August 2022;
  • implement the EDGE project with an MSU faculty member this fall; and
  • share project results during a November 2022 e-conference.

Successful applicants will receive substantial support from EDGE global learning coordinators and be awarded an honorarium to develop and implement their respective projects.

Interested faculty must complete the online grant application, submit a course syllabus for the proposed EDGE collaboration, and submit a 45- to 90-second video describing how the proposed course could be enhanced by engaging in an EDGE collaborative project with one of the selected MSU courses. All application materials must be submitted by midnight on Tuesday, Feb. 8; award recipients will be notified by Feb. 22.

Additional information and a complete list of application criteria is available on the EDGE website. To learn more, contact Nikki Mattson, teaching professor in applied linguistics, at nla12@psu.edu.
