To provide the Penn State community with a more efficient and cost-effective resource for conducting student-related business, the University’s aging Integrated Student Information System (ISIS) is slated to be replaced. After an extensive needs assessment, the ISIS Replacement Executive Committee decided to move forward with the purchase and implementation of a vendor-provided student information system.
The functionality of a University-wide, vendor-based system will create numerous internal efficiencies and process improvements that will benefit Penn State students, faculty, and staff, according to Robert Pangborn, interim executive vice president and provost for the University.
The ISIS system currently is used to manage the billing, course scheduling, transcript and student aid business records for Penn State students, from admission through graduation. The upgrade to a vendor-provided version will enable Penn State to better support undergraduate, graduate and professional students at each University location, including those attending the World Campus online.
“While this initiative will be a major undertaking for the University, we are convinced that the benefits will make this effort well worth the investment and ultimately save Penn State money in the long run,” said Pangborn.
A project team and leader are to be appointed to oversee the purchase, time frame and implementation of the new system.
