UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Garage Services will transition from the Office of Physical Plant to Transportation Services effective Sunday, Aug. 9.
The transition supports the University’s Fleet Management Organization (FMO) initiative, a University-wide effort designed to improve oversight, coordination and efficiency of Penn State’s vehicle assets. By consolidating responsibilities under Transportation Services, the University will strengthen its ability to provide comprehensive, strategic support to business units across all aspects of the vehicle life cycle — including acquisition, leasing, maintenance and disposal.
As part of this transition, Transportation Services will also lead the implementation of a new Fleet Management Information System (FMIS). Managed by the Fleet Operations team, the system will provide enhanced tools and insights to help departments manage their vehicle resources more effectively while supporting Penn State’s long-term sustainability and fiscal responsibility goals.
Service garages are located at the University Park, Abington, Altoona, Behrend, Berks and Harrisburg campuses. While reporting structures will change, no staffing changes are expected. Beginning Aug. 9, Garage Services employees will become part of the Transportation Services team.
Customers should not expect any immediate changes to service. Over time, Transportation Services will explore opportunities to enhance the customer experience, particularly as new capabilities associated with the FMIS are introduced.
