UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Education Abroad Fair, hosted by Penn State Global, will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, in Alumni Hall in the HUB-Robeson center at University Park. There will be a concurrent virtual session on Zoom from noon to 2:30 p.m. for those who cannot attend the in-person fair.

Pre-registration is required for the virtual session, but no signups are required for the in-person fair. Registration for the virtual session can be found on the Education Abroad Fair website

What is the Education Abroad Fair?

The purpose of the Education Abroad Fair is to provide students from across the commonwealth with information about global engagement opportunities and to provide a platform for them to ask questions.

Representatives from University Park’s academic colleges and Penn State Commonwealth Campuses, such as faculty who lead embedded or summer courses, will be in attendance to engage with students and answer questions. Representatives from Penn State's international partners and host institutions as well as scholarship and financial aid coordinators will be featured at the exhibition hall.

“We’re excited to promote our partners, both internal and external, who help make education abroad possible,” said Colton Breon, outreach and engagement coordinator in Education Abroad.

Students will have an opportunity to learn about various types of education abroad programs, including semester- and year-long experiences, short-term embedded or faculty-led courses, and international internships and research. Education abroad alumni, as well as Penn State Global staff, will be at the event and able to answer student questions.

Back to the World

The Education Abroad Fair is part of Penn State Global’s “Back to the World” initiative, which provides funding to help foster global engagement activities, such as a video and writing contest, a sustainability scholars program, passport scholarships, and funding for all types of education abroad.

As a part of this funding, anyone who attends either the in-person or virtual aspects of the fair will be entered into a drawing. Twenty students will be selected to receive a $500 “Back to the World” scholarship, which can be applied toward any education abroad experience at Penn State.

“We are excited to talk with students who are interested in global learning opportunities. The Education Abroad Fair is one way we ensure that students can know about the hundreds of options available around the world that can help them advance their academic and professional goals,” said Kate Manni, director of Education Abroad.

"Jet-Set Java Creamery" Ice Cream

The in-person fair also will feature free ice cream for all attendees from the Berkey Creamery. Penn State Global and the creamery recently introduced a temporary rebranding of Coffee Mocha Fudge, now called “Jet-Set Java.” This temporary renaming for the months of October and November is a celebration of the Education Abroad Fair and International Education Month. Students are encouraged to try the flavor. Jet-Set Java will be served at the in-person fair and is available for purchase at the Berkey Creamery.

Applications

Student applications for education abroad programs during the summer 2023, fall 2023, and 2023 academic year terms are now open. Information can be found on the Education Abroad website.

Students interested in enrolling in short-term embedded courses should consult with the faculty member on any admission or enrollment requirements.
