Penn State community invited to a conversation with Qatari energy minister

Penn State alumnus Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, who also is the president and CEO of QatarEnergy, will discuss the future of energy and international relations

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State community is invited to join a conversation with Qatar's Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi to discuss the future of energy and international relations.

Al-Kaabi, a 1991 Penn State alumnus who earned a bachelor of science degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering from the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, also is the president and CEO of QatarEnergy. The conversation with Al-Kaabi will be moderated by Roger Brindley, vice provost for Penn State Global.

All students, faculty and staff are welcomed to join the event, which will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, in the Flex Theater, Room 132, in the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus. A Zoom link for this event will be made available for those at Commonwealth Campuses.

“We are so excited to welcome His Excellency Saad Sheriba Al-Kaabi to Penn State to share his expertise in the field of energy and international relations,” said Wenjie Fu, external relations coordinator in Penn State Global. “We hope the community will be able to learn and engage on this topic.”

Al-Kaabi has served as minister of state for energy affairs since 2018. Al-Kaabi has worked as the managing director, president and CEO of QatarEnergy since September 2014.

Between 2006 and 2014, Al-Kaabi was the director of QatarEnergy’s Oil and Gas Ventures Directorate, where he oversaw all of Qatar’s oil and gas field developments, as well as all the exploration activities in Qatar.

Between 1991 and 2006, Al-Kaabi was part of QatarEnergy’s Reservoir and Field Development Department, where he later became the manager of gas development, responsible for North Field management and development.
