Penn State Global welcomes Paul Zeleza, distinguished professor, for lecture

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Global has announced that Paul Zeleza, the North Star Distinguished University Professor and Associate Provost at Case Western Reserve University, will be visiting Penn State to give an open lecture titled “Higher Education Internationalization between Africa and the Global North.” His presentation will take place from 12:00-1:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 in Foster Auditorium, Paterno Library.

This visit, hosted by the Sub-Saharan Africa Engagement unit (Penn State Global), offers the university community a platform for engaging in a constructive dialogue with Zeleza on issues surrounding educational policies and resources, knowledge production, political, social, and technological infrastructure, and the dynamics between national governments, higher education institutions, and non-governmental organizations.

Zeleza is a renowned scholar. Educated at the University of Malawi, the University of London, and Dalhousie University, he has published 27 books, five short monographs, and over 400 journal articles, book chapters, encyclopedic entries, and online essays. He is also a respected higher education administrator. He has worked in this role in six countries and on three continents. He was a faculty member in the History Department at Penn State before going to the University of Illinois, Chicago, to be the Head of the Department of African American Studies.

• Fellow, the Hutchins Centre for African American Research, Harvard University and
• Vice Chancellor (President), the United States International University-Africa, Nairobi, Kenya

Zeleza collaborated with the Institute of International Education to found the highly popular African diaspora initiative, the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program, with a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York. CADPP is a scholar fellowship program for educational projects at African higher education institutions.
