UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Graduate students at Penn State's University Park campus are invited to participate in a variety of de-stressing activities as a mental break as they prepare for the final weeks of the fall semester.

The activities will be part of this semester’s Graduate School Self-Care Fair, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the Flex Theater of the HUB-Robeson Center. This is the third semester the fair will be held, and students will be able to create self-care kits, get a five-minute massage, attend a meditation station, view yoga demonstrations, and learn about Penn State health and wellness resources, among other activities. Interested students should register in advance to ensure enough materials are available

The event will be hosted by Jacqueline Jones, associate director of graduate student life and well-being with the Graduate School, and is part of the Graduate School’s larger mission to support student well-being.

“The fair underscores the vital importance of self-care in the lives of our graduate students. This event is not just a one-time affair; it's an integral part of our Graduate School's broader initiative to create a supportive environment where well-being is paramount,” Jones said. “By the Graduate School investing in self-care, we empower our students to thrive academically and personally, reinforcing our commitment to their holistic wellness.”

“Self-care is not a luxury but a necessity,” she added. “We want to underscore our commitment to the well-being of our graduate community.”

In supporting a culture of wellness, Penn State has implemented various programs, including mental health awareness campaigns, academic support resources, and dedicated wellness spaces for students. The Self-Care Fair represents another important step in this journey, further emphasizing the Graduate School’s dedication to creating an environment where every graduate student can thrive.

While students are asked to register, they are welcome to stop by the fair anytime from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to participate in the free activities.
