UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State graduate students are invited to three exciting events centered around careers with the U.S. government this March. The events will span from an online panel discussion with Penn State alumnae working for the U.S. State Department, to a resume workshop and a government careers roundtable.

From Dear Old State to the U.S. Department of State: Perspectives from Alumnae Leaders in Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy

Penn Staters are making an impact all over the world, especially in foreign policy and diplomacy. Join the Graduate School at Penn State during Women’s History month to hear from Penn State alumnae who have built successful careers strengthening our nation’s international relationships through their roles at the U.S. Department of State. Learn what it’s like to work in diplomacy, what skills helped them to excel in their careers, how they leveraged their Penn State degrees, and what it’s like to have a career in foreign affairs. USAjobs and the Federal Resume Demystified

Applying to the federal government can be challenging and is completely different than any other industry. Learn about writing a federal resume and navigating the USAjobs website from a professional!
The event is presented by Tabitha Oman, an attorney and former foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State who served as a special assistant to Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell. Among her affiliations, Oman is a mentor for American Corporate Partners, a nonprofit that offers career counseling to veterans to help ease their transition from the military to the civilian workforce. Government Careers Roundtable

If you are pursuing or obtaining a graduate degree, there are opportunities for career advancement regardless of your program of study. Join this roundtable discussion, presented by the Office of Graduate Educational Equity Programs, to hear from representatives from FEMA, The State Department, FBI and The Penn State Intelligence Center about ways that people with various degrees have found meaningful, impactful work serving the U.S. government.
