UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — To help Penn State graduate students start the fall 2023 semester with success in mind, the Graduate School is hosting a series of events — called Welcome Month — in August and September on the University Park campus. All new and continuing Penn State graduate students at University Park are invited to the series of Welcome Month events, which include orientation, community-building activities, professional development, and wellness programming.
Welcome Month’s showcase event will take place in the HUB-Robeson Center on Wednesday, Aug. 23. From 9 to noon in the Flex Theater, new graduate students can attend orientation sessions on health insurance, educational equity and resources, and strategies for student success. Following the orientation, a Welcome Engagement Fair will take place from noon to 4 p.m. in both Alumni Hall and Heritage Hall.
At the fair, students can meet graduate-student organization leaders; hear from Levon T. Esters, vice provost for graduate education and dean of the Graduate School; and get to know resource offices around campus that support and collaborate with graduate students. More than 50 support offices and graduate student organizations will have representatives at the fair, offering graduate students the opportunity to make many connections in a short period of time.
Other events throughout the month will include bowling, hosted by the Graduate School’s Office of Graduate Educational Equity Programs; a coffee chat with the dean; informational sessions on how to make the most of your graduate student experience; a session on overcoming imposter syndrome; and more.
Students can learn more and register for the slate of Welcome Month events on the Graduate School’s Welcome Month webpage.
