MALVERN, Pa. — Lydell Sargeant, former Nittany Lions and Buffalo Bills football player and now senior director of development for Penn State’s College of the Liberal Arts, will serve as the keynote speaker at the 14th annual Penn State Great Valley golf outing on Tuesday, May 19, at the Applecross Country Club in Downingtown, Pennsylvania.

Corporate sponsors, Penn Staters and golf lovers are invited to enjoy brunch beginning at 10 a.m., a day out on the green, dinner, cocktails and a silent auction. Visit greatvalley.psu.edu/golf for more information.

All proceeds from the golf outing support student scholarships at Penn State Great Valley. Financial support can make a great difference to graduate students, many of whom are carrying debt from their undergraduate education or have families depending upon them.

In his address to golf outing guests, Sargeant will discuss why higher education matters and how Penn State has impacted him personally. Sargeant earned his bachelor’s degree from Penn State in 2011 and a master’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania in 2013. He is completing his doctoral work in organizational leadership from Grand Canyon University. He was a four-year letter-winner and All Big-Ten defensive back for the Penn State football team while a student and represented his fellow student-athletes on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

After his time playing for the Nittany Lions, Sargeant played football professionally for the Buffalo Bills and worked for an organization that provided contract administration and representation/endorsement services to members of the NFL Players Association. He then began his career in higher education institutional advancement, working at several universities before returning to his alma mater in 2022. He also serves as president of the Penn State Football Lettermen’s Club.

Gifts to Penn State Great Valley advance the University’s historic land-grant mission to serve and lead. Through philanthropy, alumni and friends are helping students to join the Penn State family and prepare for lifelong success; driving research, outreach and economic development that grow our shared strength and readiness for the future; and increasing the University’s impact for families, patients and communities across the commonwealth and around the world.
