Stewart's book, 'Flight, In Search of Vision,' chronicles black/African studies

James Stewart, professor of labor studies and industrial relations and African and African- American Studies at Penn State McKeesport, wrote a book titled, "Flight, In Search of Vision," which chronicles the evolution of black/African studies and explores the potential for spearheading contemporary efforts to confront various intellectual and social challenges. A review of the book, written by Molefi Kete Asante, professor of Africa- American studies at Temple University, states that Stewart's book "represents some of the best thinking about the theoretical implications of African-American Studies." Asante also notes that "Stewart's originality is refreshing and his command of the numerous theories and ideologies of culture, class and gender places him in the top ranks of comprehensive African scholars."
