Voices of citizens and victims featured in upcoming Crossing Bridges Summit

MCKEESPORT, Pa. — Three individuals who have personal experiences with policing will participate in Penn State Greater Allegheny’s virtual Crossing Bridges Summit, "Examining Police Reform: Conversations about the Pittsburgh Community Taskforce for Police Reform and Its Implications for the Mon Valley," at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16. WPSU will produce the event and broadcast it live at watch.psu.edu/crossingbridges.

Joining panel moderator Eric Ewell, director of continuing education at Penn State Greater Allegheny, will be Leon Ford, CEO of Leon Ford Speaks; Michelle Kenney, director and founder of the Antwon Rose II Foundation; and Samaria Rice, founder and CEO of the Tamir Rice Foundation.

Immediately following the livestream, the committee will host a Summit Talk to reflect on the panelists’ points and consider actionable items the Greater Allegheny campus can take with community leaders to bring meaningful change to the region.

Leading the Summit Talk will be Ewell along with LaVaughn Wesley and Khari Hicks, both members of Penn State Greater Allegheny’s Project G.A.M.E (Giving Adolescents Meaningful Experiences). G.A.M.E staff members work with Community Intensive Supervision Programs and in local high schools to create a student center experience allowing participants to become vested in their personal growth.

There is no registration required to view the panel livestream, but registration is required for the Summit Talk. To register for the Summit Talk, visit ga.psu.edu/summittalks.

The Crossing Bridges Summit began in 2017 and is a signature program at Penn State Greater Allegheny. It is comprised of five pillars: the Speakers Series, Summit Talks, student-led Unity Talks, a Visiting Scholar program, and a Task Force on Racial Equity and Justice.
