Penn State Harrisburg to hold fall 2022 commencement ceremony, Dec. 17

Jennifer A. Chambers, senior vice president and chief medical officer at Capital Blue Cross to serve as keynote speaker

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Penn State Harrisburg will hold its fall 2022 commencement ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Giant Center in Hershey.

Jennifer A. Chambers will deliver the keynote address at the ceremony. Chambers is senior vice president and chief medical officer at Capital Blue Cross in Harrisburg. She joined the Capital Blue Cross medical staff in 2007 and is currently responsible for clinical strategy and leadership across the organization and for Capital Blue Cross’s Member Health and Wellness department. She is accountable for clinical programming, including Utilization Management and Care Management programs, as well as Medical Policy and Coding, Accreditation, and Population Analytics.

Her clinical interests include hospital medicine, patient safety and quality, and hospice and palliative medicine.

Chambers earned her Master of Business Administration in 1990 from Penn State Harrisburg and her Doctor of Medicine in 1995 from Penn State College of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and served as chief resident and instructor in the Department of Medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Science in medical technology in 1981 from Millersville University. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and in Hospice and Palliative medicine.

She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She also holds a faculty position as an adjunct assistant professor of medicine at Penn State College of Medicine.

Chambers provides community leadership in the areas of intellectual disability and autism, currently serving as vice chair for the Harrisburg-based Keystone Human Services and as a board member of Keystone Autism Services.

She is a member of the Penn State Harrisburg Board of Advisors and the School of Business Administration Advisory Board. She is also a member of the Millersville University Foundation Board of Directors.

Chambers was honored with the Penn State Alumni Fellowship Award in 2016, is a recipient of the YWCA Woman of Excellence award and the Central Pennsylvania Business Journal’s Woman of Influence award, and is a 2011 graduate of Leadership Harrisburg.

She is a long-time supporter of Penn State and a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association.

In partnership with the Charlotte Newcomb Foundation, she and her husband Michael have established the Michael Vaughan Chambers/Charlotte Newcomb Trustee Scholarship for individuals with disabilities attending Penn State Harrisburg. They also have established the Michael Vaughan Chambers Fund, an endowment to provide internship support for student workers in the Bio-Behavioral Health Clinic at Penn State Harrisburg. She and her husband live near Hershey and are the parents of three children.
