MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Public Affairs and the Madlyn L. Hanes Library will host Melissa Tully, director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa, on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on campus in the Olmsted Building Room C-300. Tully will discuss news literacy and misinformation.

The talk will also be available via a Zoom webinar. The event is free and open to the public.

Tully will address research on news literacy as a response to misinformation in a variety of national contexts, drawing on both quantitative and qualitative data. Misinformation is a complex and evolving global problem that requires a multifaceted set of responses to address its spread and potential consequences. News literacy is one response to misinformation that crosses individual, structural, social, and cultural boundaries.

Tully studies news literacy, misinformation, global media with a particular focus on African media studies, and engagement.
