UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Mary E. Andrew, financial officer for the College of Health and Human Development, has been honored with the 2018 Award for Administrative Excellence.
The award, established in 1970, is given to a faculty or staff member whose performance, methods and achievements exemplify the highest standards of administrative excellence.
Andrew, who has worked in financial positions at Penn State for over 20 years, oversees a general fund budget of more than $64 million. She leads and oversees the financial and budgetary operations of the college, provides strategic financial advice and counsel to the dean, and develops and manages the budget-planning process.
She works to verify that financial controls are maintained to ensure the college complies with University policy and procedures and oversees the cash-management operations of the college. She serves as the college’s liaison to the Corporate Controllers Office, Internal Audit and the University Budget Office. She manages student, endowed and research accounting operations for the college. She oversees the development of the general salary increases, the salary increase submission process and the college’s carry-forward process.
“Andrew’s position in our college is a vitally important leadership position, and she displays that leadership on a daily basis with great skill, poise and professionalism,” a colleague said. “She does her job quietly and efficiently and without much fanfare.”
