UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Joyce Hopson-King, assistant dean for diversity and inclusion in the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State, is one of two 2018 recipients of the University Standard Bearer Way Paver Award.
Members of the Council of College Multicultural Leadership (CCML), which is comprised of the multicultural directors or deans of the 11 academic colleges and the assistant dean of the Office of Graduate Educational Equity Programs at University Park, selected Hopson-King for this honor.
Hopson-King received the award during the eighth annual Way Paver Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, April 11, at the Nittany Lion Inn.
“It is a very special honor to be recognized by colleagues from across the University who are diversity leaders who work diligently every day to support educational access, equity, and to support our mission of building an inclusive and diverse community,” Hopson-King said. “I have been a member of the College of Health and Human Development for more than 18 years and every day appreciate the opportunity to work with our undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and leadership, who believe we are uniquely qualified and inspired by our mission ‘to improve human well-being across the life span through interdisciplinary research, teaching and service,’ and to lead through our scholarship in educating the next generation ably prepared to service a diverse and global population. I am happy to share my award with all who support this work.”
The awards were established in 2011 to honor those "who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to diversity and the creation of an inclusive community, positively enhanced student life, the climate throughout the University and local communities, and motivated others through their leadership and impeccable character.”
Awards are given annually to University administrators, faculty, staff, students and community colleagues who have paved the way for others.
