The open house will be held 3:30-5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at 114 Research Center A, Hastings Road, University Park campus. Free parking is available. Please contact pennstatecsd@psu.edu or 814-863-4449 with questions.

A History of Service

Founded in 1929, the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic has served the community for over 90 years.

“The clinic provides important resources for children and adults with a variety of concerns in communication,” said Diane Williams, department head and professor of communication sciences and disorders at Penn State. “The services the clinic provides have evolved over time as the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology have evolved.”

Today, the clinic offers services from developmental screenings and treatments for the very young, to therapies for older adults who are recovering from strokes or living with Parkinson’s disease. This includes individual and group therapy options, depending on a patient’s specific hearing, speech or communication needs.

Speech and language services include pediatric evaluations, adult evaluations, screenings and evaluations for those with complex communication needs that may require technological tools to replace or support natural speech, known as augmentative and alternative communication. The audiology clinic provides adult and pediatric hearing tests, and auditory processing evaluations, in addition to sales and service of the latest and most advanced digital hearing aids. Learn more about the services offered by the audiology clinic.

Visit the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic website for more information about services.

The new space is also home to many of the research labs in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Clinical work being conducted in the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic influences research questions, and research findings are then put into practice by clinicians. The clinic and activities within it also provide critical learning experiences for graduate students in the department.

“The clinic is an important resource as we prepare the next generation of clinical practitioners whose work is grounded in cutting-edge research and in engagement with the community we serve,” said Williams.
