Luchs appointed to State Board of Nursing

HERSHEY, Pa. — Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center’s Sherri Luchs has been appointed to a six-year term to the State Board of Nursing by Gov. Tom Wolf. The State Board of Nursing protects the health and safety of the citizens of Pennsylvania through the licensure/certification and regulation of the practice of professional and practical nursing and dietetics-nutrition by registered nurses, practical nurses, certified registered nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, dietitian-nutritionists and graduate nurses.

Luchs has been with the Medical Center since 1991. She began her career on the inpatient pediatrics unit and moved to the pediatric ambulatory setting in 1998 as a clinical head nurse. Luchs assumed administrator duties for Penn State Medical Group in 2006 and eventually worked her way up to chief administrative officer in 2008. Over the course of six years, she collaboratively led expansion of the geographic footprint of the Medical Group by 25 percent, improved patient access, served as executive sponsor for the development and deployment of the electronic health record to 62 primary and specialty care sites, redesigned the infrastructure to support the Medical Home and NCQA designation for 13 primary care sites, and developed a new innovative variable staffing model.

Luchs is currently a black belt for the Operational Excellence team where she leads and educates clients on Lean Six Sigma methodology.
