Penn State Health collected 408 pounds of medication and 20 sharps containers during National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Oct. 23.
“National Prescription Drug Take Back events play a key role in collecting unwanted and expired medications, as well as used needles and syringes,” said Deborah Berini, president of Hershey Medical Center. “By doing so, we’re keeping them out of the hands of children and others who could accidentally – or intentionally – harm themselves.”
Penn State Health partnered with the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, Department of Aging, Department of Military and Veterans Affairs’ Counterdrug Joint Task Force and Derry Township, Lower Paxton Township and North Londonderry Township police departments.
Since 2010, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has held National Prescription Drug Take-Back Days each April and October.
Those who were not able to attend the event can use the drug return boxes at Hershey Medical Center, which are available year-round during regular business hours at:
- 30 Hope Drive, Hershey, inside Entrance B
- Penn State Cancer Institute near the pharmacy by the main entrance
- University Physician Center lobby, Door 4, near the pharmacy
