HERSHEY, Pa. — Penn State Health has again earned national recognition for supporting veterans and their families through its hiring and employment practices.
Military Times named Penn State Health to its 2022 "Best for Vets: Employers" list, which recognizes organizations for programs and policies that support veterans’ post-military careers. The Military Times rankings are based on the results of a voluntary survey completed by the health system’s Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The survey covers the policies and practices that make companies an attractive place to work for current employees and future job seekers within the military community.
"Best for Vets" is a sought-after distinction. Military Times previously named the health system to its list in 2021.
This year, Penn State Health ranked No. 2 in Pennsylvania among all organizations submitting a survey. Nationally, the health system ranked No. 5 among nonprofit organizations and eighth in the Healthcare – Health Services – Medical Equipment category. Overall among all companies and organizations listed nationwide, Penn State Health ranked No. 88.
“Military service is another aspect of our organization’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. We strive to increase the population of military veterans within our workforce, as well as implement strategies and programs to create a respectful and inclusive workplace,” said Lynette Chappell-Williams, Penn State Health vice president and chief diversity officer. “One of those strategies has been the establishment of military and veteran business and employee resource groups. They present an opportunity for military veterans in the Berks, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and West Short regions to come together virtually to network and provide guidance on what Penn State Health can do to better support our military/veteran employees. These efforts benefit our military and veteran patients, as well.”
