Nearly 250 women, and a few men, gathered to support the fight against heart disease in women at the Capital Region Go Red for Women luncheon on May 9 at the West Shore Country Club in Camp Hill. The event raised more than $280,000 for the American Heart Association. Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center presented the event.
Attendees learned about the importance of incorporating exercise into everyday life from Andrew Sorey, nurse manager of the Cardiac Rehab and Wellness Program at Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute. Kelly Rotondo, program manager of LionNet, and Morgan Boyer, LionNet nurse coordinator, also led a trivia game on the causes and prevention of stroke.
During the Go Red for Women program, heart disease survivors shared their inspirational stories.
The Harrisburg School District superintendent and students from Camp Curtin School in Harrisburg stopped by to present a check for more than $1,000 that they raised to support the American Heart Association.
Attendees also contributed to the cause by bidding on more than 60 designer purses that were donated by local business and community leaders for the silent “Pursonalities” auction, as well as making personal gifts during the Open Your Heart appeal.
Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association's national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women.
