HERSHEY, Pa. — Dr. Rachel Levine, Pennsylvania’s secretary of health, visited Penn State Children’s Hospital on Feb. 28 to tour the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and talk with providers about the importance of meeting the health needs of children across the state.

Doctors, nurses and hospital leaders spoke with Levine about programs and initiatives for pediatric and adolescent preventive screenings and clinical care, as well as medical innovations used for treating and caring for babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome. She also discussed Gov. Tom Wolf’s Ready to Start Task Force.

“We want to ensure that Pennsylvania has healthy moms and healthy kids,” Levine said. “Whether we are discussing maternal and child health as it relates to the opioid crisis or the latest innovations on childhood obesity, we must make sure we are working to provide for the health of our children. It is essential that we focus on a child’s needs from the time they are born throughout their school-age years.”
