WITF's Transforming Health, of which Penn State Health is a sponsor, and the Central Pennsylvania library systems have announced this year’s Summer Read, “The Gratitude Diaries: How a Year Looking on the Bright Side Can Transform Your Life” by bestselling author Janice Kaplan.
Summer Read’s goal is to engage readers across central Pennsylvania in a conversation about how being grateful and looking on the bright side can transform life. Through September, the public is invited to visit local libraries to borrow the book and hold discussions with their book clubs, friends, family and colleagues.
Relying on both amusing personal experiences and extensive research, Kaplan explores how gratitude can transform every aspect of life including marriage and friendship, money and ambition, and health and fitness. She learns how appreciating your spouse changes the neurons of your brain and why saying thank you helps CEOs succeed. Through extensive interviews with experts and lively conversations with real people including celebrities like Matt Damon, Daniel Craig and Jerry Seinfeld, Kaplan discovers the role of gratitude in everything from our sense of fulfillment to our children's happiness.
Participants in "A Summer Read" will have the chance to win a free copy of the book, meet Kaplan during a private book signing and hear her speak Oct. 5 at the Strand-Capitol Theatre in York. Thirty winners will be chosen.
Most local libraries carry the book, including those in Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster and Lebanon counties.
