Penn State Lehigh Valley Advisory Board Chair Howard Kulp, 1973  alumnus, and his firm Howard Kulp Architects, P.C. were recently honored by the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

The design awards had 17 entries representing 11 firms in eastern Pennsylvania. Five of the 17 entries earned awards, including Howard Kulp Architects, P.C. of Allentown.

Howard Kulp Architects, P.C. earned the commercial institution – special citation award from AIA Eastern Pennsylvania for its work on the Blue Mountain SlopeSide Pub & Grill in Palmerton. Another Penn State alumnus, Eric Karasek ’04, was on the team of architects who designed this building with Kulp.

Juror comments about the space included: "Though the building has an eclectic design language, the attention to detail and materiality allows for an appreciation of each style. The main dining room and its timber roof creates an incongruity of heavy and light materials that asks for attention."

Penn State Lehigh Valley would like to congratulate Howard Kulp and his firm on this great achievement.
