HERSHEY, Pa. — Penn State Children’s Hospital has recognized the Highmark Foundation for its work in bullying prevention in children and adolescents. Through programming, grant funding and other projects, the Highmark Foundation has dedicated significant resources throughout the last decade to support bullying prevention efforts throughout Pennsylvania.
Dr. Leslie Walker-Harding, chair of pediatrics, presented the foundation with the 2017 Penn State Children’s Hospital Community Champion Award at an event in Hershey last night. The Children’s Health Advocacy Dinner took place at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center.
Last night’s event included a keynote talk from Dr. Matthew Masiello, a nationally known expert on bullying prevention, who spoke about the role that pediatric health care providers should play in the issue. Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Karen Murphy and Physician General Dr. Rachel Levine were also in attendance.
The Children’s Hospital presents the Community Champion Award every two years to highlight organizations for their efforts to improve children’s health and wellness in Pennsylvania.
In addition to other work in the community, the Highmark Foundation partners with Penn State PRO Wellness to support schools through a grant program in which bullying prevention is a priority area.
