HERSHEY, Pa. — The Conquer Run, a competitive 5K run and fun walk through Hersheypark, raised $132,285 for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital and the fight against childhood cancer. The event, which was held Sept. 23 and drew more than 1,200 participants, was supported by presenting sponsor uFinancial.

In the U.S., more children die from cancer than any other disease — more than asthma, cystic fibrosis, diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined. Treatment outcomes for children with cancer have made tremendous improvements over the past 50 years, but the reality is one in five children with cancer will still die of their disease within five years. Four Diamonds is working to save all children from this life-changing diagnosis.

“September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the Conquer Run provides an opportunity for every member of our community to join us in raising awareness and funds for children and families fighting this terrible disease,” said Suzanne Graney, executive director of Four Diamonds. “Research is the only hope for a cure, and with the community’s support we can continue the life-saving research underway at Penn State College of Medicine to save children around the world.”

The Four Diamonds mission is to conquer childhood cancer by assisting children and their families through superior care, comprehensive support and innovative research.

Since its creation in 1972, Four Diamonds has helped nearly 4,000 children and families and supported a diverse platform of pediatric cancer research projects at Penn State Children's Hospital and Penn State College of Medicine. Its goal is to improve new treatments and, ultimately, find a cure for children around the world.
