Fulbright program announces call for 2020-21 applications

The Fulbright program has a 70-year history of scholarly and cultural exchange

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Applications for the 2020-21 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program Core Competition are now open.

The Fulbright Scholar Program was established in 1946 by U.S. Sen. J. William Fulbright to promote mutual understanding between the United States and other countries. The program is sponsored by the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, a unit within the U.S. Department of State. It is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, which is part of the Institute of International Education.

There are almost 60 Fulbright awards in over 30 countries in the Western Hemisphere, such as Canada, the Dominican Republic and Mexico. To apply, or for more information, read: Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program Regional Spotlight: Western Hemisphere. The deadline for submission is Sept. 16.

In addition, the following past Fulbright recipients are current members of the Fulbright Discipline-Based Panels. These panels were charged by the vice provost for Global Programs to share their experience and render advice to their colleagues applying for a Fulbright grant, and they also review project statements and make recommendations prior to submission.

“We have seen that these faculty members cherish their Fulbright experience, and want to help others throughout the process,” said Sylvester Osage, Faculty Fulbright adviser in Global Programs.
