UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State office of Global Programs is celebrating International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 19, and awarding the Spirit of Internationalization in the Centre County region. A brunch will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Nittany Lion Inn Ballroom featuring a vocal performance and poetry.
International Women's Day is celebrated by universities, businesses, nonprofit organizations and millions of individuals around the world in the form of rallies, festivals, conference, performances and more. According to the United Nations website, it has been celebrated on March 8 since the 1900s, and it is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. It is an occasion to look back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, to look ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.
Penn State celebrates International Women’s day by awarding The Spirit of Internationalization Award which honors those with international interests who have shown extraordinary strength of character and commitment to the cause of empowering and/or united the international community of women and girls. Visit the Award Criteria to find out more or nominate an individual woman or organization. Nominations will be accepted until Feb. 14.
Tickets to the brunch are $18 with proceeds going to a charity of the Spirit Award Winners’ choice.
