Heitzmann receives President’s Award from international counseling association

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Dennis Heitzmann, senior director and special assistant to the vice president for Student Affairs at Penn State, recently received a presidential commendation award from the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD).

This award is issued by the president of AUCCCD in recognition of meritorious service and valuable contributions to the AUCCCD.

“I have been deeply involved with AUCCCD for my entire career and was honored to be recognized for those commitments with the President’s Award at the annual conference,” said Heitzmann.

AUCCCD is a professional association for counseling center directors. Its nearly 1,000 members represent colleges and universities from the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. The organization promotes effective leadership and management of counseling and psychological services on university campuses.

Heitzmann served as senior director of the Penn State Counseling and Psychological Services from 1984 to 2016. In August, Heitzman stepped down as senior director to lead special projects in Student Affairs. Heitzmann served as president of AUCCCD from 1994 to 1996 and in 2003 he received the AUCCCD Lifetime Achievement Award.
