UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State office of Global Programs will celebrate International Women’s Day from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at the Nittany Lion Inn.
International Women's Day is celebrated by universities, businesses, nonprofit organizations and by millions of individuals around the world in the form of rallies, festivals, conference, performances and more. According to the United Nations, it has been celebrated on March 8 since the 1900s, and it is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. It is an occasion to look back on past struggles and accomplishments, and to look ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women. The celebration will include a performance, poetry and a raffle.
Penn State celebrates International Women’s day by awarding The Spirit of Internationalization Award which honors those with international interests who have shown extraordinary strength of character and commitment to the cause of empowering and/or uniting the international community of women and girls.
Tickets to the brunch are $18 with proceeds going to a charity of the Spirit Award Winners’ choice.
