UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Those raising children of family members or close friends face unique challenges, according to organizers of Kinship Café, a Penn State Extension program. Monthly live webinars take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the next meeting scheduled for May 21.

Kinship care refers to relatives — such as grandparents, aunts, uncles or close friends — caring for kids when their parents cannot do so for various reasons.

Organizers describe Kinship Café as a welcoming space for kinship families to connect, access resources and discuss relevant topics. The program uses the Caring for Our Kin curriculum, developed in collaboration with West Virginia University Extension.

Sessions will explore caregiving challenges, family dynamics and children’s best interests while providing guidance on community resources.

These webinars are free, but attendees must register by 7 p.m. on each webinar date to get the access link. The sessions will not be recorded.
