UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The ways the Black Lives Matter movement is manifesting on college campuses and what work needs to be done in higher education to address systemic racism will be discussed during the next episode of WPSU’s “Digging Deeper” on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Nyla Holland, president of the Penn State Black Caucus, and Kevin Winstead, postdoctoral fellow with the Center for Black Digital Research at Penn State, will join Penn State President Eric Barron for the discussion.

“Digging Deeper” will air at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on WPSU-TV and can be streamed on live.wpsu.org.

Holland said Penn State needs to show Black students they feel safe, wanted and valued through the University’s culture and values.

“On a basic level it’s what’s being written into policies,” she said. “It’s putting, writing things, embedding them, but also creating a culture and a climate that reflects those values so that when something attacks those values, it seems out of place. And everyone is triggered by that on a very basic level.”

WPSU’s “Digging Deeper” explores how work being done at the University impacts the broader community. Penn State senior Rhea Jha serves as co-host and rounds out each episode by asking Barron questions that are on the minds of students, faculty, staff and community members.
