Penn State experts help you get your garden ready for summer

WPSU’s ‘Get Your Garden On' hosts Extension educators, fruit farmer for live call-in show April 14

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Local experts will help central Pennsylvanians prepare for this year’s gardening season when WPSU’s “Conversations LIVE” airs on Thursday, April 14, on WPSU-TV. 

“Conversations LIVE: Get Your Garden On!” will feature Elsa Sanchez and Tom Butzler, horticultural experts from Penn State Extension, and Sara Hricko, a Penn State graduate and co-manager of Green's Fruit Farm in Elysburg. The three will answer questions and provide insights on best methods and practices. Viewers can ask questions ahead of time at connect@wpsu.org or by calling in during the show at 1-800-543-8242. 

In addition to spring gardening prep, the show will address the latest news on the spotted lanternfly, proper garden mulching and watering, and other related topics. 

Sanchez is a commercial vegetable crops specialist at Penn State's University Park campus, focusing on environmental sustainability. Butzler works with commercial horticulture operations and the landscaping community in Clinton County. His area of expertise is vegetable production and beekeeping.  

The episode airs at 8 p.m. on WPSU-TV and WPSU-FM and will be available on-demand on WPSU’s YouTube channel and the PBS streaming app.
