Penn State’s Applied Research Laboratory partners with Skillbridge program

The Department of Defense initiative offers on-the-job training and career development to active military members as they transition to the civilian sector

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State, a University Affiliated Research Center, has announced its partnership with the Skillbridge program, an initiative of the United States Department of Defense which helps active military members transition to the civilian sector in the final 180 days of active duty.

As a DOD Skillbridge partner, ARL will provide service members the opportunity to build their resumes, develop job skills through on-the-job training, and gain valuable work experience that will help them transition to the workplace. In addition, service members will receive professional development opportunities and the chance to interact with ARL leadership.

As a UARC, ARL maintains core technology capabilities of critical importance to the U.S. Armed Forces and other government agencies. Founded in 1945 at the request of the United States Navy, ARL conducts cutting-edge research and technology in support of national security.

“Supporting our nation’s Armed Forces is woven into the fabric of ARL. Our commitment to our national security mission is an enormous part of our 78-year history and our future as we explore the frontiers of research and development. I’m extremely proud to offer this opportunity to give back to our brave service members as they transition into civilian life,” said ARL Executive Director Allan Sonsteby.

Eligible service members are encouraged to reach out to hr@arl.psu.edu to learn more about ARL and the DOD Skillbridge program.
