Representatives of Pennsylvania Pink Zone recently presented Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute with $40,000 for its Lady Lions Basketball Breast Cancer Research Endowment and Cancer Genetics Program.

Miriam Powell, executive director of Pennsylvania Pink Zone, and Mitch Kirsch and Mandy Brajuha of its fundraising committee, presented $30,000 for the endowment and $10,000 for the genetics program.

The funds were raised through the ninth annual Pink Zone Game on March 1 at the Bryce Jordan Center at University Park, where the Lady Lions went up against Wisconsin. Additional fundraising events take place throughout the year, including T-shirt sales and the Pink Zone 1-mile run.

The Cancer Institute is one of six beneficiaries of the Pennsylvania Pink Zone. Its mission is to promote cancer awareness and empower survivors through year-round efforts to raise funds critical in supporting vital breast organizations, charities and facilities that focus on breast cancer education, prevention, diagnosis and treatment.The Pennsylvania Pink Zone will celebrate 10 years in 2016. Pink Zone Game information will be announced this fall.
