Photojournalism students capture diversity on campus

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A hands-on assignment for some photojournalism students in the College of Communications provided a sampling of some of the diversity at Penn State's University Park campus.
Senior lecturer John Beale worked with the University Office of Global Programs and provided students in COMM 469 Photography for the Mass Media with a list of international students on the University Park campus who said they would be willing to participate in a class project.

The photojournalism students then contacted the individual international students and scheduled times for portraits at a site on campus that would give the overall class project some consistency -- the Nittany Lion Shrine.Along with contacting and scheduling the portrait subjects, members of the class also obtained flags from Global Programs representing each international student’s home country. With the flags, and the students themselves, the resulting portraits produced a mix of color and personality that left both Beale and his students pleased with the final product.
