UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State's Class Gift of 2014, the HUB Green Roof Terrace, is completed and will be officially dedicated at 2 p.m. on April 21, at the HUB-Robeson Center. All are invited to attend.
Penn State President Eric Barron will kick off the dedication ceremony with opening remarks. Following, 2014 Class Gift Communications Chair Danae Blasso will offer additional words on the importance of class gifts and what the Green Roof Terrace will mean to current and future Penn State students, faculty and staff. Refreshments will follow, allowing guests to experience the new space in its full capacity.
“As with every class gift, we are proud of our graduating seniors and the spirit in which they give to leave their mark here at Penn State,” said President Barron. “Aside from being an inviting space to rest, reflect or recharge for the Penn State community, the 2014 Class Gift also fits in with our environmental mission of sustainability.”
Among more than 150 gift proposals initially submitted, the HUB Green Roof Terrace was one of three finalists voted on by seniors and ultimately won the vote. More than 2,500 members of the class of 2014 gave $190,000 to the support the construction of the Green Roof gift.
The seniors' gift has enhanced and expanded the HUB's green roof terrace. The new terrace provides additional seating as well as more space for organizational programming. The green roof helps advance sustainable architecture and design on campus and provide several key environmental benefits, including reducing the heat island affect that traditional roofs create, allowing for better management of storm water and creating a new habitat for plants, birds and insects.
The mission of the Class Gift Campaign at Penn State is simple: promote a philanthropic spirit among the graduating class by providing students an opportunity to leave their legacy at the University they call home. Through a collective effort, the senior class has the opportunity to give both their time and financial resources and take their first step toward becoming proud alumni.
