UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — WPSU Penn State wants students to hit the record button when visiting family during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
WPSU-FM, along with other NPR stations, is partnering with StoryCorps for The Great Thanksgiving Listen. High school and college students age 13 and older are encouraged to interview a grandparent or elder during the holiday weekend using the free StoryCorps mobile app.
The app will directly upload the recordings to the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress — the nation’s first established cultural institution and the largest library in the world — for archive and preservation. The conversations will also be posted to StoryCorps.me.
StoryCorps hopes to make The Great Thanksgiving Listen a national tradition while also collecting more interviews in one weekend than it has in its entire 12-year history. Since 2003, StoryCorps has archived more than 60,000 interviews as it seeks to record, share and preserve stories as told by older generations.
Resources, including sample interview questions, tool kits and more information about The Great Thanksgiving Listen can be found at wpsu.org/greatlisten.
