Students invited to learn how to create prototype entry for Nittany AI Challenge

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM / January 13, 2026

Penn State students interested in participating in the 2026 Nittany AI Challenge are invited to attend the Prototype Kickoff from 6 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 13 in the Eric J. Barron Innovation Hub.

The Nittany AI Challenge, presented by the Nittany AI Alliance in the College of Information Sciences and Technology, is an annual event that offers an opportunity for students from across the University to use artificial intelligence (AI) to address pressing global issues.

The Prototype Phase determines which teams will be selected to move forward in the Challenge. Each team must submit a prototype video that conveys the key components of their AI solution. Submissions and supporting documentation are due Jan. 19.

A panel of independent judges will score the prototype entries, and up to 15 teams will each be awarded $300 to further their idea as part of the Challenge. The awardees, announced on Jan. 30, will move on to the Minimum Viable Product Phase of the competition.

The Prototype Kickoff on Jan. 13 is designed to help student teams learn more about prototype expectations and get energized for the next stage of the competition. The kickoff aims to:

  • Help student teams define or refine their idea
  • Introduce teams to tools they can use to take their idea to the next level
  • Provide students with tips and guidance on creating their prototype video

Students in any major are invited to attend. A technical background is not required.
