IST appoints new director of recruiting

The College of IST would like to welcome Moradeyo "Deyo" Olorunnisola to her new position as director of recruiting.

In her 16 years at Penn State, Olorunnisola has worked in the College of Communications, the Graduate School and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. She joined the IST team on Feb. 7.

“I was intrigued by the college,” she said.

Olorunnisola brings 20 years of advising experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Before coming to Penn State, she was coordinator of admission at Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences. Olorunnisola hopes to use her admissions background to reach enrollment quotas and diversify IST enrollment with a focus on recruiting more female and international students.

“It’s not just about a goal of enrolling enough students, it’s about enrolling the best students,” said Olorunnisola, who believes self-motivated and creative students are a match for enrollment in IST.

As director of recruiting, she will serve as the frontline person for students visiting the college, and a liaison for admission programs for prospective and accepted students. Olorunnisola will conduct recruiting visits at the University Park campus, commonwealth campuses, high schools and internationally.

She plans to create a description of IST that can be universally understood. “I want to create four or five words that people can wrap their heads around. I want students and professors of all specialties to be able recite these words when asked what IST is all about,” she said.
