UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Mark Campbell, director of Penn State IT's Core Infrastructure team, has been named interim associate vice president for Penn State IT Infrastructure. He succeeds Bill Wrobleski, who is retiring from Penn State on Jan. 7. The search for a permanent replacement will begin in the near future.
Penn State IT Infrastructure provides foundational technologies necessary for University operations, including wireless services, virtual private network access, data center operations, and telephony systems.
"Mark has a diverse technical background, having also worked in the Office of Information Security and Digital Library Technologies," said Michael Büsges, interim vice president for information technology and chief information officer. "As interim AVP, he will continue to advance the key infrastructure capabilities that are critical to the operations and mission of Penn State."
Campbell has been with Penn State full time since 2003. He has both associate and bachelor's degrees in information sciences and technology and a master's degree in applied statistics, all from Penn State. Campbell is pursuing his doctorate in information sciences and technology. He also has extensive military service with the U.S. Army, currently with the 28th Infantry Division, where he serves as the senior communications officer for the state.
"Bill's message to our team has consistently been, 'We are working on the right things,'" Campbell said. "I am grateful for this opportunity to keep those 'right things' moving forward for Penn State."
One of the major initiatives underway in IT Infrastructure is the Disaster Recovery and Ransomware Response project, which will improve capabilities to respond to an IT disaster. Other ongoing projects include implementation of security enclaves and service enhancements.
