UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Poppy Crum, a neuroscientist and innovator who is highly regarded in both the technology sector and academic circles, will be the keynote speaker for Penn State's 2023 Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) Symposium on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
Crum is the chief technology officer at NextSense, a foundation dedicated to unlocking brain health with real-world data insights and practical, scientific wisdom for daily living. She also is an adjunct professor in computer research at Stanford University. Her work is at the leading edge of how technology innovation combined with data can transform the industries that ultimately support quality of life.
The TLT Symposium showcases ways technology can enhance teaching and learning in higher education. In addition, faculty and staff who attend share how they use technology in unique ways, network with other colleagues, and generate new project ideas.
"The annual symposium is TLT's largest opportunity for face-to-face connection with faculty across all of our campuses and colleges," said Jen Stedelin, vice president for information technology and chief information officer. "It's a day for faculty to illustrate how they continue to push the barrier with their transformative work in teaching and learning. We're delighted to welcome Dr. Crum as the opening speaker for this impactful day."
Registration is now open for the symposium, which will be held in person at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. The keynote address will be available via livestream for anyone unable to attend.
In addition, TLT will debut a new virtual half-day event, Symposium Lite, from 1 to 4 p.m. March 23. Faculty and staff will be able to experience a portion of the in-person event or continue their learning by viewing a handful of additional pre-recorded sessions and participating in facilitated discussions with the presenters. More details will be coming in January.
