Penn State students, faculty and staff should subscribe to IT Alerts

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — IT Alerts inform the Penn State community of the current service status of Information Technology offerings, systems and tools such as Canvas, LionPath, Kaltura and Zoom.

To subscribe to IT Alerts, visit the Service Status page on the Penn State IT Help Portal. Select “Subscribe to All” or pick and choose which alerts you want to be notified of by clicking on the + or - signs in the Status History. Unit and campus-specific alerts are also available.

Additionally, there are different color-coded definitions and symbols that indicate the specificity of each IT Alert.

For a detailed legend, review the graphic below or read the Knowledge Base article ServiceNow: Subscribe or Unsubscribe to Penn State IT Alert Notifications.

The different types of IT Alerts and their color-coded definitions are:

  • Green check mark: means that everything is properly operational
  • Orange minus symbol: represents an issue of current degradation
  • Red exclamation point: used to demonstrate an outage
  • Purple "i" symbol: symbolizes planned maintenance
  • Blue "plus" sign: showcases the presence of multiple issues
  • Yellow exclamation point in a triangle: alerts Service Now subscribers of advisories

Subscribers will receive email notifications about planned maintenance, service degradations and outages. This means that the next time the Internet goes out or if a resource isn’t functioning properly — you'll be one of the first people to know.

IT Alerts help streamline internal operations in an effort to enhance student success and foster digital transformation. Other free IT Support resources include Tech Tutors and IT Walk-Ups.
