UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — One of Penn State’s software purchasing sites, softwarestore.psu.edu, will be decommissioned on April 30, 2025. All departmental purchases have or will be migrated to PSUbuy to align with the University’s procurement guidelines.
Penn State IT decided to phase out the software store site due in part to several technical limitations. Since a third party hosts the site, many important features cannot be addressed, including improving the site’s accessibility and identifying site traffic.
This change will have little or no impact on students since all student software is free to Penn State students on softwarerequest.psu.edu.
PSUbuy will become the only outlet for departmental purchases for faculty and staff. There will not be a credit card purchasing option. Shoppers are required to complete live or web-based training to gain access to PSUbuy.
Personal purchase of some software titles, including EndNote and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, will now be available in General Stores. For more information, review the Knowledge Base article "How To Order Personal Purchase Software Licenses Through ODP (General Stores)."
For questions, contact the software licensing team by emailing psulss@psu.edu. Faculty and staff also can learn more about PSUbuy or keep up-to-date with the platform by joining the PSUbuy Change Network on Microsoft Teams.
