UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — This year, the University’s annual Symposium for Teaching and Learning with Technology will be a hybrid event that attendees can join either in-person or virtually. The change comes after two years of the event being entirely virtual.

The symposium, which has occurred every year since 1993, brings together ideas and people with the power to transform education. The event includes presentations, discussions, workshops, networking, awards and more. It is free to Penn State faculty, students and staff and will occur on Saturday, March 19, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

In-person attendees will gather at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center, as they did for events prior to the 2020 Symposium. Virtual attendees will join using the app Whova, which also has been used for previous events. All attendees can access the event schedule through Whova.

The 2022 event will open with a keynote address given by the author, entrepreneur and TEDx speaker Huda Essa. Essa is an expert on culturally responsive practices and inclusion.

“We’re delighted to welcome Essa to the symposium this year,” said John Hoh, interim associate vice president for Teaching and Learning with Technology. “Her expertise has supported many organizations in their diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.”

Morning breakout sessions will follow the keynote, after which box lunches will be accompanied by the popular Open Innovation Challenge presentations. The afternoon will include additional breakout sessions and networking opportunities.
