Zoom webinar capacity limit to decrease to 500 attendees for most users July 1

Microsoft Teams still offers Penn State users the ability to host larger webinars and meetings

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On July 1, Penn State's Zoom webinar capacity limit will decrease to 500 attendees from 1,000 attendees for most users.

Zoom and Microsoft Teams are both available for videoconferencing at Penn State. However, depending on the attendance capacity and your role at Penn State, it is important to review the capacity limits for both services to decide which one works best for your needs. For hosting a large event, Teams has a greater capacity for participants or view-only attendees.

The Zoom webinar capacity limit is decreasing as a way to lower costs without compromising the ability of Penn State users to host large meetings and webinars. Microsoft Teams allows for the same number of attendees — and in some cases more — than the old Zoom licenses.

Please refer to the knowledge base article "Meetings and Webinars at Penn State" to review a table comparing the two services to determine which will work best for your needs.
