Institute for Computational and Data Sciences Symposium Concurrent Workshops
10:45 AM - 5:00 PM / October 06, 2025
The Penn State Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) symposium event on Monday, Oct. 6, in HUB-Robeson Center at Penn State University Park, will also be coordinating concurrent workshops held by four Penn State experts across diverse domains who are utilizing computational and data sciences methodologies in their research. The concurrent workshops will also be held on Oct. 6 at Penn State University Park.
The workshops include:
- 10:45 a.m. to 5 p.m.: "Building the Quantum Future: Research, Education, and Collaboration Across Disciplines"
- Hosted by Mahmut Kandemir, distinguished professor of computer science and engineering, ICDS co-hire and Quantum Hub interim director, this workshop seeks to enhance the visibility of and advance quantum sciences and collaborations at Penn State.
- 12:30 to 2 p.m.: "Scalable, Multi-output Gaussian Processes (GPs) and Astronomical Applications"
- This workshop, hosted by Hyungsuk Tak, associate professor of statistics and of astronomy and astrophysics and ICDS co-hire, will have short talks and use case presentations with the goal of identifying potential collaboration opportunities. This event will be held in 538 Davey.
- 12:30 to 4:15 p.m.: "Advances in Computational Mathematics with Machine Learning"
- Hosted by John Harlim, professor of mathematics and ICDS co-hire, this workshop will have four speakers who will address recent developments in machine learning and computational mathematics.
- 1 to 3:30 p.m.: "Multi-Omics at Scale: Leveraging Penn State's Expertise for Future Interdisciplinary Opportunities"
- Gustavo Nader, professor of kinesiology, is hosting this workshop that will feature three research talks and a roundtable discussion to connect researchers to identify synergies, strategic directions and organizational structures at Penn State around the rapidly growing field of multi-omics.
Concurrent workshops require registration separate from the ICDS symposium. For complete details on the concurrent workshops including meeting rooms, event agendas and registration links, visit the ICDS website.
