UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The annual Penn State Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) Symposium event will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 8:45 a.m. to 5:20 p.m. in Alumni Hall in HUB-Robeson Center at Penn State University Park.

The event is designed to bring together University researchers, students and staff, industry professionals and thought leaders to explore advanced, emerging technologies, build new multi- and interdisciplinary collaborations and showcase innovative research in artificial intelligence (AI), computational science and data science.

"The annual symposium serves as a forum where industry partners and the Penn State community across diverse domains, colleges and campuses can gather to highlight ongoing and planned innovative research endeavors, to engage in relevant discussions and potentially build fulfilling research collaborations," said Guido Cervone, ICDS director. "This event directly enhances ICDS' vision to drive the next era of human progress advancing science, engineering and humanities through cross-disciplinary collaboration, AI and high-performance computing."

Event highlights include:

  • 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.: Keynote Speech by Mark Salvador, program manager in the Biological Technologies Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)

  • 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.: “Building Successful Collaborations between AI and Domain Researchers”

    • This panel will feature Penn State researchers from different domains who will discuss strategies that have helped them navigate challenges and celebrate triumphs when working with multi-disciplinary teams.

  • 1 to 3:10 p.m.: Parallel Breakout Sessions

    • Multiple breakouts will led by Penn State researchers focused on a variety of topics including AI for accelerating science and discovery, hypothesis generation and connecting AI to the physical world.

  • 3:20 to 5:20 p.m.: Student Poster Session and networking event showcasing student research across Penn State.

Registration is required to attend the ICDS Symposium. Registration deadline is Sunday, Oct. 4, by 11:59 p.m.

Call for posters

ICDS is inviting Penn State students to submit their research for the student poster session. The deadline to submit posters is Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 11:59 p.m. Any graduate or undergraduate student may submit a poster for consideration.

Interested students must register for the ICDS Symposium before submitting a poster. Posters should have a significant AI, data science or computational science component to be considered. At least one author per poster must be available to present their research in person at the symposium on Oct. 14 from 3:20 to 5:20 p.m.

Student posters will be judged by a group of Penn State researchers. The top three posters will receive a prize. First place poster will receive $500, second place poster will receive $250 and third place poster will receive $100.
