DUBOIS, Pa. — A striking difference in weather from Monday’s play, the Penn State DuBois (PSUD) baseball team took on Miami Hamilton (MH) out of Hamilton, Ohio, on Tuesday with Trevor Hanna, a senior from Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, starting on the mound. An early home run by MH gave them the initial lead with two runs. Brett Beith stepped up to the mound with bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the first inning to hit a single, bringing in two runs to tie the game.

Beith caught a hit at the center wall and threw the ball in to limit MH to just a single run in the top of the third. Thayne Morgan, a senior from Bigler, Pennsylvania, earned his 100th career hit in the bottom of the third inning.

DuBois struggled in the top of the fourth, Hanna still on the mound, bases loaded, when MH hit a double with two RBIs to left field. This brought a pitching change for Penn State DuBois to Connor Cherry, a freshmen from Lewistown, Pennsylvania, to end the inning at 7-2.

Cherry held the score through the top of the sixth, when Penn State DuBois brought in Samuel Cheng, a sophomore from Miami, Florida. PSUD continued to struggle, while MH had hot bats. A combination of walks, hit-by-pitches, and a couple of good hits ended the sixth inning with a score of 11-7.

Freshmen, Broc Weigle from Parker, PA was brought in to pitch in the top of the seventh to battle against loaded bases. An additional three runs scored by MH before a double play ended the half inning.

Bats continued to be quiet as Penn State DuBois suffered their first loss of the tournament with a final score of 14-7. Play continues Wednesday for DuBois at 12:30 p.m. against Buck’s County Community College to battle to stay in the tournament.
