Men's lacrosse upsets Johns Hopkins to win Big Ten tourney title

Penn State to host Army West Point in NCAA Tournament

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Second-seeded Penn State men’s lacrosse upset top-seeded Johns Hopkins in a commanding 16-8 victory for the Big Ten Tournament Championship. The trophy marks the Nittany Lions’ second program Big Ten Tournament crown and first since 2019.

With its Big Ten tournament win, the Nittany Lions eared an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championships. Penn State was selected as the No. 8 seed and will host Army West Point in a first-round matchup at 2:30 p.m. on May 9 at Panzer Stadium at the University Park campus. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

The Nittany Lions' NCAA invite is Penn State's fourth straight, the longest active streak in the Big Ten.

Army holds the major advantage in the all-time series, boasting a 29-4 edge over the Nittany Lions. Despite the disparity in the record, Penn State had won the last three meetings by a combined 16 goals. The last time the teams met was in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, where Penn State gritted out a 10-9 win to advance to the team’s second-ever Final Four.

Penn State's Big Ten Tournament win was history repeating itself inside SHI Stadium, where the Nittany Lions defeated Johns Hopkins in the conference tournament in 2019.

Penn State split the regular season conference title with Johns Hopkins, Maryland and Ohio State.
